Welcome to our Ski Lessons Site

A series of lessons to help you become an Expert Skier

We at BecomeAnExpertSkier.com firmly believe in the holistic approach to ski instruction. Becoming an expert skier is about understanding all of the aspects, both on and off the mountain, that can influence your performance in the expert zones.

Downhill Skiing on a steep slope

The expert skier learns how to be strong and stay strong throughout the year so he or she can ski with power and skill, and confidence and control, in any terrain and in all snow conditions in the descent of the mountain.

The following list includes a number of benefits that our online ski lessons provide for the alpine skier who wants to take his or her skiing to the ultimate level. The lessons in this series have been designed for the unique needs of the downhill skier who wants to become an expert skier.

  • In our opinion, the skier who aspires to become an expert needs to become stronger physically and tougher mentally in the fall to prepare for the rigors of expert skiing in the winter. For this reason, we've devoted two lessons for ski-specific stretching and exercising, as well as two lessons for the development of the right mind set plus visualization and focus.
  • In addition, those who wish to become experts need to learn about proper nutrition and hydration, both before and during a typical day of all-terrain skiing. In light of the above, two lessons entitled Foods for Endurance and Food Guide for the Skier have been included.
Skier on a mogul run
  • Our mogul, tree, and steep skiing lessons are designed to teach the student how to become an all-terrain skier, while the powder, crud, and ice lessons are geared to helping the skier handle all the snow conditions that he or she may encounter on the mountain.
  • Furthermore, after each of the mogul, tree, and steep skiing lessons, we point the student to a ski resort in the east, central, and west where he or she can go and practice what was taught in the lesson. We also recommend certain runs at the above resorts that are a good fit for the content in the ski lessons.
  • It has been our experience that learning to become an expert skier is more of a solitary endeavor. After each of our online ski lessons, students can go on their own or with a friend and practice. If they fall, who cares! They can get back up and ski the maneuver again and again until they get it right.
Skier in a tight chute
  • By contrast, slope-side group lessons don't usually work well in the expert zones. Students feel intimidated with the terrain, stressed out being pressured to ski a new maneuver at someone else's pace, or tensed up when applying a new technique under the watchful eye of a crowd.
  • It is our belief that the aspiring expert needs to maintain his or her ski fitness level throughout the summer months by participating in a conditioning program that works most of the same muscle groups that are used in skiing. In this way, continuity is established from year-to-year since the ski muscles are not left idle for eight months at a time. He or she can also ramp up much faster in the fall. A new module entitled Summer Conditioning Programs will be published in the spring of 2009 to address this continuity issue.

Why don't you give a lesson a try! Order one that suits your immediate needs, and come back later if you like for more. We currently have eight lessons available for download in PDF format. In the coming months, we'll add nine more for a total of seventeen ski lessons.

We recently decided to make the lessons available on an individual basis. Some skiers may need only a few lessons to reach their goals, and not the full set of lessons that are included in our web-based training course entitled the Skills of the Expert Skier.

I hope the lessons help you become the expert skier you always dreamed you could be. Enjoy yourself on the slopes this season!

Regards,

Jim Safianuk
